CSOs advocate for National Constitution that will meet yearnings of Women

Civil Society Organizations CSOs in Adamawa State have advocate for a national constitution that will meet the demands of the people especially Women.

The Organizations made the suggestion a press conference organized by Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative WRAPA in collaboration with the European Union EU United Nation UN spotlight initiative held at City Green Hotel in Yola.

The Coordinator of WRAPA in Adamawa State, Barrister Fatima Raji said that the organizations have identified about seventeen critical areas that needed to be amended so that Nigeria can have a friendly constitution for all manner of persons.

She stressed the need to have a national constitution that will project the aspirations of the Nigerian people particularly the women, who have suffered historical marginalization and exclusion.

The coordinator explained that since the inception of the civilian regime in nineteen ninety-nine, there has been increased dialogue around constitutional reforms as systems that are critical to the political culture and the political stability.

Hajiya Fatima Raji appealed to Nigerian women as a whole to say; “No to Gender based violence, No to spousal battery, and Elimination of gender based violence in public and private lives.

The organization stressed the importance of rights to private and family life, non-discrimination of persons, promotion of women’s participation in governance and gender diversity as well as provision of special political seats for women in parliament.

The organization suggested that henceforth, Nigeria’s constitution should use gender sensitive language, be gender sensitive, promote socio-economic rights of citizens, and enthrone human dignity.
