Adamawa Assembly adopts as amended report of its standing committee on bill for law to provide for the mandatory drugs testing for applicants for appointment

Adamawa state house of assembly has considered, adopted as amended the report of its standing committee on a bill for a law to provide for the mandatory drugs, alcohol and other illicit substance testing for applicants for appointment, employment and schools admission. The house decision followed the presentation of the report on the floor of the house by its ad-hoc committee headed by the member representing Verre constituency and chairman house committee on employment, labour and productivity Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Yapak. According to the title of the bill if passed into law and assented to it will provide compulsory hard drugs testing for applicants into state educational and public institutions as well as provide for other matters. After deliberations, observations and recommendations on the report the speaker of the house Alhaji Aminu Iya Abbas who presided over the session put the motion to that effect into voice vote in which members present unanimously gave their consent. He therefore directed the chairman house committee on rules, business, ethics and privileges to schedule the bill for the third reading during any convenient legislative sitting. 18, MORE……………. 23.08.2022 3:45PM HOUSE: TWO Meanwhile the house of Assembly has also read for the second time a bill for a law to establish a technical training scheme for the state for training of school leavers to acquire vocational skills that will enable them provide essential technical services. The second reading of the bill followed its presentation on the floor of the house by its sponsor the member representing Hong constituency and chairman house committee on education Mr Bathiya Wesley during Mondays plenary. According to the title of the bill, if passed in to law it will subsequently create employment and give economic impetus to the state as well as provide for other matters. After considering the importance of speaker of the house Alhaji Aminu Iya Abbas who presided over the session put the motion on its passage in into voice vote in which members present indicated their consent. He then referred the bill to house committee on education, tertiary and professional institutions and those of judiciary, entrepreneurship development and poverty alleviation and wealth creation to scrutinize and report back to the house within two weeks. 18, MORE………….. 23.08.2022 3:45PM HOUSE: THREE In a related development, the house of Assembly also read for the second time a bill for a law to establish Adamawa state planing commission, its composition, functions and powers and to provide for other matters incidental thereto. The bill which was sponsored by the member representing Hong constituency Mr. Bathiya Wesley was presented on the floor of the house during Tuesdays sitting. After considering the importance of the bill the speaker of the house Alhaji Aminu Iya Abbas put the motion to that effect into voice vote and it was supported by the house lawmakers present after which it was committed it to house committee on planning to scrutinize and report back within two weeks.
