Christian Council of Nigeria Calls To End Violence Against Women, Children

The National President Christian Council of Nigeria CCN, Most Reverend Benebo Fubara Manuel has called on religious and public opinion leaders to join hands with the council in fighting Violence against Women and children in the society.

The cleric who made the call at a press briefing in Yola, urged the Church in general to prioritize such effort for a free society from free of various of Violence.

Reverend Manuel advocated for multilateral efforts and initiatives in checking the menace of violence against women and children which he described as real evil confronting communities which needed to be address.

According the chairman, the council in collaboration with UNICEF with support from European Union-United Nations Spotlight initiative has embarked on a sensitization campaign against violence against women and children in Adamawa.

The cleric president said the council reject any form of abuse of women and girls, including women’s forced domestication, discrimination in religious, political and social settings, exploitation, as well as trafficking.

He observed that the church has sometimes contributed in promoting violence against women and children by misinterpreting some Bible passages, adding that the council will use the pulpit in changing the narrative.

Reverend Manuel charged on pastors and well-meaning Christians to join the campaign in ending abuses targeting women and girls.
