GBV: Adamawa State Ministry of Women Affairs, Social Commends NGOs

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Adamawa State, Mrs Saso Benson Ali has commended non-governmental organization for their contributions in tackling in fighting gender based violence in the state.
She made the commendation Thursday during the closing ceremony and reflection of International Women’s Day at an event held at the Women Development Centre Yola.
The Permanent Secretary explained that during celebration of this year’s Women Day officials of the ministry and some other partners visited some communities in Adamawa where they sensitized women to end gender based violence issues among others.
She said the day is observed on March eight and this year`s celebration has the theme ” Gender Equality Today for Sustainable Tomorrow”.
Mrs Benson Ali stated that during the sixteen days activities, the Ministry of Women Affairs has sensitized the public in nine local governments on benefits of tree planting to mitigate effects of climate change in their areas.
The permanent secretary called on women to unite and work together toward ending gender based violence.
In her remark, the executive Director of the organization, Against All Odds Foundation, Mrs Sarah Jackson Solomon appealed to women to stand up to ensure that violence directed at them are minimize.
She thanked the ministry of Women Affairs for its initiatives and urged the staff to maintain the posture.
Speaking, Hajiya Aishatu Yakubu from Goggoji Initiative Foundation enjoyed women to ensure proper upbringing of their children for the general benefit of society.
Highlights of the event included an interactive session with journalists as well as a questions and answers.
