Governor Fintiri to rehabilitates six general hospitals

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri says his administration will soon engage contractors to commence rehabilitation of six general hospitals as part of measures to improve secondary healthcare system in Adamawa.

He revealed this when he granted audience to the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr Edward Kallon who led a delegation on a courtesy call in the Government House, Yola Tuesday.

Governor Umaru Fintiri said government has also awarded contract for building of four new sixty-bed cottage hospitals in Adamawa in addition to granting approval for employment of over one thousand technical workers for primary healthcare centres.

The Governor added that government has ensured that the State Specialist Hospital Yola is headed by a senior consultant and this has attracted twelve consultants, and eight medical officers in various areas on visiting basis.

He declared that his administration has also provided a modern accident and emergency unit, improved laboratory services with modern equipment, and upgraded theatre and laundry services, installed about seven ventilators as well as provided new ambulances and hospital furniture in the specialist hospital Yola.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri stated that Adamawa benefitting is from interventions of the UN and its agencies in the areas of early recovery, water, education, health, agriculture, and child protection among others which he noted are beneficial to the people, assuring and that government shall collaborate with the partners on them.

The governor said over the past one year, his administration has invested in laying intellectual foundation and crafting a compass for achieving its eleven point agenda notably on education, water, infrastructural development, as well as youths, and women empowerment.

Governor Umaru Fintiri expressed hope that the visit by the UN delegation will unlock more opportunities of support in scaling up the development of the state regional and trans border infrastructure, economic development and COVID-nineteen management plan among others.

Earlier in his remark, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Mr Edward Kallon said the team was in the state to listen, learn, engage and support government and the people of Adamawa towards improving living standards in the state.

He said the nineteen Resident UN agencies, are willing to support the state government through funds and programmes in addressing various challenges through an integrated approach that builds on each agency’s comparative advantage.

Mr Kallon commended the efforts of the state government in combating HIV/AIDS even during these difficult times and noted that Adamawa is the best in the Northeast working towards prevention of mother -to -child transmission of HIV.

He called on the government to accelerate passage of ongoing legislations in the state Assembly and domesticate the Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition Act, the Child Rights Act and Violence against Persons, VAP Act.

Meanwhile, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri Tuesday organized a dinner for the UN delegation in the Government House, Yola where after he presented gifts to the members as a mark of gratitude for the visit.

The UN delegation had earlier met with members of the state executive council led by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bashir Ahmad where they heard performances and challenges of some ministries and promised additional intervention.
