UNICEF consultant tasks parents on violence against Women

Parents in Makama “A” Ward in Yola South Local Government have been enjoined to join hands with relevant authorities towards eliminating violence against Women and girls in the area.

A consultant with the United Nations Children’s fund UNICEF, Bashir Abubakar made the plea while launching a community volunteer group organized by a Non-governmental organization, spotlight initiative, in collaboration with the European Union held at Nana Asmau Health Centre Yola.

He explained that the programme is aimed at enlightening Ward leaders on the need to form Committees that will sensitize the populace on ways to protect the girl-child against Gender based Violence.

Malam Bashir expressed displeasure over the lukewarm attitude of some Parents who neglect their responsibilities.

Earlier in his speech, the community orientation and mobilization officer in charge of Yola South Local Government Alhaji Muawiya Abba said the involvement of the organization is to train members of the Community on how volunteers would work to check child abuse in their areas.

He advised Parents to Monitor the movement of their Children and prevent them from associating with bad peer groups.

Alhaji Abba appealed to Parents to report any violence against Persons to Volunteers for necessary action.

In his goodwill messages, a Community Leader in Makama “A” Ward Mohammed Sali commended the foresight of the organizers and assured them of support.
