Laka women in Adamawa protest against rape

The Momen wing of Laka Cultural Association of Nigeria Adamawa State Chapter in collaboration with the National Council of Women Society together with the United Nation Population Fund Thursday organized a rally in Yola to protest against rape and gender violence.

The procession took off from Nasarawo area of Jimeta to Yola North local government Secretariat.

At the local government Secretariat, the council chairman, Alhaji Uba Bappa assured members of the association the support of government to the agitation to tackle rape and other forms of violence in the society.

Alhaji Uba thanked the group for their efforts in complementing government efforts for a safer society, adding that his doors are always open for such initiatives.

He said the Umaru Fintiri led administration is working hard, addressing criminal activities including the notorious Shila Boys terrorising residents of Jimeta.

The chairman called on parent to monitor the activities of their children and ensure their proper conduct in the society.

The chairperson, women’s wing of Laka Cultural Association of Nigeria, Adamawa state chapter Madam Sarah Justine explained that the aim of the campaign is to express worry and enlighten parents on the need to monitor children as well as expose rape cases in their communities

She appealed to government to amend relevant laws designed to prevent and dater perpetrators of rape and similar crimes.

In their separate remarks, the supervisory councilor for works in Yola North Hajiya Larai Mohammad, as well as Hajiya Hauwa Isa Pakka and the representative of commissioner of women affair affairs Mr John Maduwa saluted Laka women in the state adding that women play vital roles in the society.
