Traditional Ruler Attributes Rape Cases To Drug Abuse

The District Head of Jimeta and Dan Isa Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Baba Paris has attributed the high incidences of rape in the society to drug abuse.
The district head stated this when some members of Adamawa Coalition against Rape ACAR paid him an advocacy visit at his palace in Jimeta.
He maintained that only Allah will reward those who stood firm to fight against Rape and other forms of Sexual Abuse and Gender Based Violence in the society.
The District Head stated that research has showed that drugs are the major factor of rape and other vices like the Shilla boys and also blamed some mothers who forced their daughters to hawk thereby exposing them to danger of rape.
The royal father charged parents to ensure that girls receive the required education, and train them to be great leaders in future.
The district head urged ACAR to take awareness to schools and urged the ten Village heads in his domain to carry out same enlightenment to their various communities.

In his remark, the village head of Damilu, Mallam Isma’il Bello, said the District Head has done a lot in the fight against any form of Sexual Abuse and Gender Based Violence as Village Heads were mandated to liaise among themselves in handling rape cases.
Earlier, leader of the delegation, Hajiya Hauwa Hammajoda informed the district head that ACAR has already include in its work plan visitation to schools and communities for awareness and to other relevant stakeholders for advocacy on ways to tackle the menace.
She also enumerated some challenges faced by ACAR in getting justice for the survivors of rape and how some village heads interfere with rape cases.
