Commissioner Inaugurates Board Members, Adamawa State Badminton Association

Aloysius Babadoke, Commissioner, Adamawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports have inaugurated Board Members, Adamawa State Badminton Association, saying their selected based on their contributions to the development of Badminton and sports generally in the state.

The ten Board members which will serve for four years tenure under the leadership of Dr Usman Ahmad Dadah were inaugurated Tuesday at Dan-Tsoho Hotels Yola.

Babadoke, said the ministry will soon organize a marathon race and endowment fund the development of sports in Adamawa.

“The selection of members of the Badminton Association Board was done based on merit. We carefully selected you based on your contributions to the development of Badminton and sports generally in the state,” he said.

Babadoke announced that governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is coming out with programs for the development of spots, calling on the private sector to assist government in promoting sports in the state, as government alone cannot do everything.

The commissioner, while congratulating the newly inaugurated board members of the Association called on other sporting associations that have not inaugurated their members to do so with immediately for the progress of sports in the state.

Earlier in his speech, the chairman of the Association, Doctor Usman Ahmed Dadah appeal to the state government to renovate office of the sport council destroyed by bomb blast some years back and overhaul the sports in the state.

He explained that sporting men and women needs encouragement and motivation, hence the need for the government to provide sporting facilities and equipment for training.

Dadah said the board will come up with a programme of catch them young from primary schools and encourage the veterans and old ones participate to the game of Badminton.

“We will design a program of catching them young right from primary schools and also encourage the veterans and the aged ones participate in the game of badminton to keep them fit and healthy.

“Badminton has a lot of benefits to the player of the game. This include giving greater strength or fitness to your body, improving heart function, improving metabolic rate, increasing bone destiny, minimizing risk of diabetes, increase concentration and decreasing stress among others,” he said.

Dadah described Badminton as a game that promotes national culture and enhances the economy as well as unites the people and promotes recreation and entertainment.

In her remark, the State Director of Sports Mrs Esther Dominic while congratulating the members decried low participation of people in the Badminton game in the state.

In his goodwill message, the State Chairman of Sport Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN, Adamawa state Mr Samuel Gangwaja assured the association of adequate coverage of its activities any time.

Those inaugurated included, Usman Ahmed Dadah as Chairman, Stephen Maduwa, Vice Chariman, Adiel Sunday Secretary, El-Mustafa Hamidu as Coach while Dauda Aliyu Belel, Doctor Raymond Chidama, Sulaiman Ahmed, Manasseh Michael, Alhaji Abba Bello and Hambarka Tela as members.
