Northeast Governors Forum To Research On Financial Model Of Adamawa State

The Northeast Governors forum has agreed that the research on innovative financial model of the Adamawa State Government know as Agribusiness Support Programme be extended to other states in the region.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who is the Vice Chairman of the forum stated this while reading a communique issued by the forum shortly after its fifth Meeting in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital on Tuesday.

The Governor said the forum directed the management of Arewa Research and Development Project ARDP to submit the project proposal to the forum Secretariat for onward transmission to the various states for implementation.

According to the communique, the Governors deliberated extensively on the Mambilla power project and noted with dismay, that the project is surrounded by a lot of contractual encumbrances which have stalled its take-off and realization.

The forum, therefore called on President Muhammadu Buhari to accord the project the desired seriousness by establishing a Special Purpose Vehicle, SPV to address the encumbrances and bring the project to reality.

The Governors noted the general improvement of the Security situation in the region and called for continuous collaboration of security agencies in the country to sustain the gains.

The Forum also noted the negative impact of circulation and use of drug and narcotic substances in the region and the extent to which it fuels insurgency and other forms of criminality and called for support in the area of stopping the menace across the borders in the Northeast.

It acknowledged the good work of the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria REAN and resolved to support the agency to deliver on its mandate within the region while calling on the agency to intensify working with designated Focal Persons at the State level to ensure justifiable spread of projects across the region.

In its bid to reposition Education in the sub-region, the Governors Forum received a report from the North East Council on Education adding that it has taken the Councils’ advisory on the improvement of quality and performance of students and teachers screening and training in the region.

The next meeting of the forum will hold in Damaturu, Yobe State, on Saturday, ninth October, twenty-twenty one.
