NDLEA arrests over 500 drug offenders in Adamawa

The Adamawa state Commandant of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Agboala Samsun Femi has disclosed that it has arrested over five hundred drug offenders from June last year to May twenty-twenty three.
State commandant revealed this while briefing newsmen at the Command Headquarters Tuesday to mark this year’s United Nation International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking.
He explained that those arrested include over four hundred males and females.
Mr Femi added that the command recovered over one thousand kilograms consisting of Cannabis Sativa, Methamphetamine Nkpuru Miri-Ice, Cocaine Psychotropic substances among others from the offenders.
The commandant noted that the command also secured the interim forfeiture of two-bedroom property located at Ngurore ward of Yola south local government following concealment of two hundred and fifty-nine blocks of compressed Cannabis Sativa weighing two hundred and twenty-six kilograms from the structure.
Mr Femi explained that the command secured the convictions of one hundred and seventeen drug offenders who were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment while seventy-one drug cases is pending at the Federal High Court Yola.
Speaking on the significant of the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, the state commandant said the day is observed worldwide on the twenty sixth of June every year for countries to reinvigorate their efforts towards a society free of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
He said the theme of this year celebration is “People First Stop Stigma and Discrimination Strengthen Prevention.
The commandant further explained that for the Week-long activities of this year`s, the command has organized drug sensitization lectures in some schools in Jimeta and Yola town.
Samsun Femi added that on twenty third of this month special prayers will be delivered in Jumma’at Mosques by the Muslim Council and on Sunday in various Churches.
The NDLEA commandant commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his immense support and contributions toward making the state free from drug abuses.
