UN representative on Spotlight Initiative urges government to end gender based Violence

The United Nation representative on Spotlight Initiative Doctor Graci Ilori has appealed to government and non-governmental organizations to put an end to gender based violence against women with disabilities in the country.

She made the call during a press conference to commemorate this year`s International Women’s Day organized by UN in collaboration with Spotlight Initiative held at Tufini Hotel Jimeta.

Doctor Ilori added that during Covid-nineteen pandemic women and girl’s child have been exacerbated in the country.

She explained that the UN report recently showed that women are Head of States in twenty two countries and twenty two points nine percent at parliamentarian.

Doctor Drapi Ilori therefore urged government to provide basic amenities to women living with disabilities in the country.

She commended Adamawa state government on its efforts to fight violence against women in society.

Earlier in her welcome address the executive director Voice of Disabilities Initiative Barrister Catherine Chinyere, said the International Women’s Day is celebrate on eight march commemorating the political, social and economic achievements of women.

She said the theme of this year`s “International Women’s Day is Women in leadership Achieving an equal future in a Covid-nineteen World”.

Barrister Catherine advised well meaning Nigerians to work together towards empowering women.

On their part, focal women with disabilities Mrs Godiya Simon, and Fancy Falluma Vanco expressed their appreciation to spotlight initiative and Voice of Disability Initiative for organizing the event and urged government and individuals to assists the by providing vocational skills training among others social amenities.
