Lecturer cautions Journalists against divisive tendencies

A Lecturer with Modibo Adama University, MAU, Doctor John Ngamsa has cautioned journalists against divisive tendencies among them and involvement in unethical practices.

He made the admonishment in a lecture he delivered at the American University of Nigeria, AUN Hotel Yola during a one day seminar organized by the Adamawa state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in collaboration with a Non-governmental organization  Managing Conflicts in Nigeria, MCN at the sidelines of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.

Doctor Ngamsa who was one of the resource persons at the workshop described as noble and interesting the work of journalism.

According to him, one of the professions that equality and fairness is journalism given its stance on these values.

The facilitator who stressed the need for Journalists to embrace and respect one another in the course of their work tasked them to brace up towards countering the false or divisive information being circulated by some unprincipled or unqualified persons in the social media.

In his presentation, Professor Bashir Abdullahi cautioned journalists on guard in their interactions with Politicians and thugs, especially during electioneering period.

Professor Bashir who noted that if impunity against journalists continues the society would be distablised, harped on the need to collectively ensure the safety of journalists in the society.

He challenged journalists to as a remedial step to impunity know their rights, document their write-ups and reportage, report impunity cases to relevant authorities, be vigilant and collaborate with their colleagues on such cases.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Adamawa state Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Ishaka Donald Dedan saluted the participants for turning up and appreciated the resource persons for obliging the union invitation.

He appealed to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to graciously assent to the media bill before him to improve on the welfare of Journalists in the state.
