The Media, CSOs, Others Parley In Yola On Human Right Violations

The Media, Civil Society organizations, and Community leaders have come together under the auspices of coalition-building engagement to proffer solutions to the prevailing human rights violations by security agencies in Adamawa state.

The forum, which was in form of a workshop, organized by Search for Common Grounds was held at Alheri Hotel in Jimeta.

State Coordinator of Search for Common Grounds, Mr. Chorbe Joshua, while speaking during the two-day training said the workshop was to enhance advocacy processes, in addressing human rights violations through formation of a coalition.

He acknowledged the collective role of individuals from the media, CSOs and traditional institution, pointing out that the project is simultaneously being executed in Benue and Adamawa states.

According to him, the expectations of the participants are formation of a coalition, with the aim of seeking further collaboration between civilians and security agencies in the two states.

A resource Person during the workshop, Mr. Ada James Emmanuel, who took participants on police professional standards, principles and code of conduct for officers noted that tackling human rights violations is a collective responsibility.

Grace Mamza, who was a participant at the workshop, noted that the workshop is timely considering the fact that electioneering campaign has started.

Another participant Moses Alagon, from CSO said the workshop is impactful adding that he has gained adequate knowledge on operations of the security agencies particularly the police.

The workshop is expected to lead to formation of a coalition that will champion eradication of human rights abuses by security agencies.
