Blind Association makes case for employment of its members

The Nigeria Association of the Blind, Adamawa state chapter has joined its counterparts in other parts of Nigeria in celebrating the Twenty-Twenty International White Cane Safety Day.

The event was held at the Blind workshop center, Jimeta Thursday, with the theme “promoting Independence and productivity”.

The state chairman of the association, Comrade Bitrus Richard explained that the Day is important to members, adding that the mobility White Cane used by the Blind and partially sighted persons was to enable them to independently navigate their way from one place to another.

He urged government to make accessible the white cane being used by the blind and partially sighted persons for their safety.

The chairman also appealed to the Umaru Fintiri led administration to consider members of the association during employment exercises to enable them contribute their quota toward the development of Adamawa.

Comrade Bitrus urged the authorities to prosecute the forty two year old man who raped an eighty six years old blind woman in Girei local government area.

The Chairman urged members of the association to be law abiding and continue to give maximum support to the Umaru Fintiri led administration.

In his remark, the Public Relations Officer of the Association, Malam Isha Ibrahim called on government to provide the White Cane to the blind as many of them can afford to acquire the item because its high price.

He called on the general public especially drivers to be cautious while on the road considering the conditions of people like the blind.
