NAHCON launches Hajj Savings Scheme in Adamawa state

Adamawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Commission, in conjunction with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria NAHCON, has launched Hajj Savings Scheme to enable underprivileged Muslims have the opportunity to perform hajj pilgrimage in Makka.

At the official launching ceremony of the programme at Admiral Nyako Center in the State Secretariat Yola, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, said the scheme will enable Muslims who cannot afford to pay hajj fares at once do so gradually over a period of time.

The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mallam Bashir Ahmad urged officials that will handle the scheme to be just and honest while discharging their duties.

He called on the commission to enlighten Muslims on the operations of the scheme to enable them understand and embrace it.

In his remark, the Chairman, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, Alhaji Zikirullahi Kunle Hassan who was represented by the Director Licensing of the Commission, Alhaji Zakariyau Umar explained that the scheme was designed to make the pilgrimage easier and more affordable for intending pilgrims.

He added that the commission in collaboration with Jaiz Bank Plc, introduce the scheme to give Muslims the opportunity of saving gradually at their convenience over a period of time to facilitate their performance of hajj exercise.

Also Speaking, the National Coordinator of Hajj Saving Scheme, Doctor Tanko Aliyu highlighted some of the benefits of the scheme to include profit sharing based on the savings they made, job creation as well as poverty alleviation and empowerment.

He commended Adamawa state government and Adamawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Commission for embracing the scheme for the benefit of Muslims across the state.

Earlier, the Adamawa State Chairman of Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Commission, Shaikh Ibrahim Abubakar Daware described the scheme as a welcome development, saying it would not only increase the number of Muslim pilgrims, but also ensure their participation in hajj exercise with relative ease.

Lamido Adamawa Doctor Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa represented by the Galadima Adamawa, Alhaji Mustafa Aminu thanked the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria for introducing the scheme and encouraged Muslims to enroll in the scheme.

In a remark, the Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Commission, Alhaji Salihu Abubakar, explained that the Hajj Savings Scheme would allow low income earners, such as civil servants and petty traders to partake in hajj pilgrimage with ease through their savings.

Alhaji Salihu Abubakar assured Intending Pilgrims of safety of their saving with Jaiz Bank under the scheme.
