Adamawa State Statistician-General describes data as veritable tool for planning

The Adamawa State Statistician-General Mr Aloysius J. Nagarwa has described data as a veritable and effective tool that can be used for planning and development of the economy.

He  stated this on the sideline of training of Enumerators for the National Business Sample Census holding at the Federal Secretariat Yola, explained that data collected will be used for planning to solve economic challenges facing the country.

The Statistician explained that the enumerators will spend forty five days on the field conducting the exercise, while adequate arrangements have been made for effective supervision.

However local governments with security challenges will not be covered.

Mr Ngarwa charged the enumerators to be committed and be sincere to the national assignment, adding that correct, timely and accurate data is essential for planning and development of Nigeria economy.

While declaring the Training open, the Executive Chairman, State Planning Commission, Doctor Mary Paninga said the conduct of the census will help to increase the quantum and quality of statistics required for policy formulation, planning, monitoring and evaluation of government programmes and projects.        She stated that the prospects of the present administration’s reform agenda and other Sustainable Development Goals and Africa agenda twenty-sixty three can only be realized through the use of accurate data.

In his message, the Statistician-General of the Federation, Doctor Yemi Kale said the United Nations Statistical Commission recommended that such exercise be conducted every five years, but the exercise has not been conducted in Nigeria for over two decades, attributing it to lack of funding.

Earlier, the State Coordinator, National Bureau of Statistic, Mr Ayuba Ibrahim said fifty five enumerators are taking part in the training and charged the participants to be good Ambassadors of the state while on the field.

There were goodwill messages from the State Director, National Orientation Agency and Director Commerce, State Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry.
