Adamawa State House of Assembly passes resolutions on boundary issue

Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed resolutions informing Governor Ahmadu Umaru Finitiri to direct the State Ministry of Border Integration and the Surveyor- General of the State to identify boundary between Yola North and Yola South Local Governments.

The resolution followed a motion sponsored on the floor of the house by the member representing Yola North Constituency, Alhaji Hamidu Sajoh Lekki during Tuesday’s session.

Alhaji Sajoh Lekki informed the house that Yola North which has eleven political wards and shares boundary with Yola South and Girei local government areas was curved out of the defunct Yola local government and was initially given the name Jimeta but later changed to Yola North.

The lawmaker who is the representative of Yola North local constituency expressed worry about the gradual dismantling of the identification posts of the established boundary between the two local government areas, hence conflicting official duties of staff of the two council’s in terms of revenue generation and issuance of indigene letter among others.

He said if the situation remains unattended to, it could likely result into conflict between the two councils and the resultant effect would be on those conducting their legal businesses around the borders areas of the local governments.

After various contributions and observations by lawmakers present during the sitting the Speaker of the House, Alhaji Aminu Iya Abbas who presided over the plenary put the motion to that effect into voice vote and which was unanimously supported by the legislator.

Thereafter, the sponsor of the motion Hamidu Sajoh Lekki moved for the adoption of the resolutions and was seconded by the member representing Mubi North Constituency, Alhaji Shaibu Dan Musa.

Speaker Iya Abbas then mandated the House standing Committees on Security and Border Integration and Legislative Compliance to ensure the implementation of the House resolutions by monitoring the exercise.
