Adamawa State Government says it will continue to support any initiative aimed at bringing healthcare delivery closer to Adamawa citizens.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri gave this assurance Friday during the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, twenty-twenty one Maryam Dangtibiya annual ward Assessment award and send forth ceremony in honor of the former Director of Administration of the Hospital, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Nayejo.

Represented by the state Head of Civil Service, Doctor Edgar Amos, the Governor maintained that the renovation of General Hospitals and construction of more cottage Hospitals was a deliberate policy to ensure Adamawa citizens have access to qualitative healthcare services.

In his remark, the vice chancellor Modibbo Adama University Yola, Professor Abdullahi Tukur said the upgrading of Federal Medical Center Yola to a teaching Hospital was based on the request of Government and people of Adamawa state.

He assured that the university and the Teaching Hospital will work together to make the Hospital to be a center of excellence in pediatrics in Nigeria.

Earlier, the medical Director of Teaching Hospital, Professor Awwal Abubakar explained that the annual award was initiated years ago in honor of a retired nurse, Maryam Dangtibiya who was committed to her duties.

He said the criteria for the award centered on cleanliness, relationship with patients and maintenance of Hospital equipment by staff in the various wards.

The Medical Director stated that if not for the ongoing strike by university lecturers, the first set of Medical students at modibbo Adama University would have taken off.

On her part, the chairman of the Governing Board of the Hospital, Hajiya Habiba Ibrahim commended President Mohammadu Buhari, his wife and some leaders of thought in Adamawa for their support in the upgrade of the Hospital.

Out of the sixteen wards of the Hospital female medical ward emerged first followed by special care baby unit while pediatric surgical ward came third.

The event was held at the Banquet Hall, Government House Yola.
