Nigerians Advise To Contribute In Governance

The Director, Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development Abuja, Ambassador Felix Pwol has advised Nigerians to contribute in governance rather than persistently castigating elected leaders.

Ambassador Pwol who gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Yola, maintained that people should regard elective positions as an institution that they too could be there and therefore be constructive in offering advice instead of complaining and grumbling.

The Director further reminded Nigerians to be law abiding and shun negative acts like corruption, drug trafficking, gender based violence and child abuse among others.

He explained that one of the key tools that would enhance peaceful coexistence in Nigeria is dialogue, pointing out that investors tend to avoid disorderly countries.

Ambassador Pwol stated that in democratic systems, there are several tools and avenues which include elected representative’s various levees, Party structures and the mass media, that citizens can use to air their views on their representatives and governance.

He said the constitution mandates government to provide security to citizens and accept constructive criticism as Civil Society Organizations are playing complimenting role in the peace building process for peaceful coexistence in the society.

The director maintained that every citizen deserves peace, and Nigerians should therefore contribute their quota to ensure that the nation moves forward.
