NGO distributes milling machines to Vulnerable Women in Yola

World Food Programme in collaboration with an on-governmental Organization, Goggoji Zununci Development Initiative on Tuesday distributed eighty-six milling machines to some vulnerable women in some communities in Yola North and Yola South local governments.
The communities are Doubeli, Nasarawo, Gindin Kaka, Nasarawo Lumo-Koppi, Nasarawo Borehole, Rumde, Church Street and Jambutu in Yola North.
Others are Tungo, Dodore, Yolde Pate, Makama “A” Makama “B” Magaji, and Lagire Jullire in Yola South.
Speaking during the distribution ceremony which took place in the Women Development Centre Yola, the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Lami Patrick challenged the beneficiaries to resist the temptation of selling the milling machines.
She reiterated the commitment of the Adamawa state government to assisting vulnerable women across the state.
Mrs Lami Patrick said Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has signed the bills on Gender Based Violence against the girl Child with the view to protecting women and children in the state and called on them to ensure proper upbringing of their children.
The commissioner commended the World Food Programme and Goggoji Zumunci for the intervention project and urged them to maintain the posture.
In their separate remarks, the District Head of Yola Alhaji Muhammed Ahmed Mustapha and Acting District Head of Jimeta Alhaji Muhammadu Jauro Baba expressed delight over the gesture adding that it will go a long way in reducing poverty among the vulnerable in the state.
The District Heads called on beneficiaries to make good use of the machines for the sustenance of their families.
Earlier, in her welcome address the Executive Director, Goggoji Zumunci Development Initiative, Hajiya Aishatu Yakubu said the World Food Programme is supporting victims of crises with food and means of decent livelihood.
She said the benefiting vulnerable women were selected through their ward heads.
Hajiya Aishatu stated that the machines were given free and the beneficiaries were trained on how to maintain them.
The executive Director added that organization has constituted committees that will supervise the use of the machines in the various communities.
Hajiya Aishatu Yakubu commended the World Food Programme for implementing the project in Adamawa urged it to maintain posture.
There were goodwill messages from representatives the Commissioner of Agriculture, Commissioner, Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Human Services and representative of the Executive chairman, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency among others.
Speaking to newsmen, some of the beneficiaries Patience Paul, and Hadiza Abubakar Baraya expressed appreciation to the World Food Programme and Goggoji Zumunci Development Initiative for assisting them and pledged to use items for the purpose intended.
