NEDC, Adamawa Train 150 Youths On Waste Recycling

Not less than 150 youths are set to benefit from one week training on efficient waste management practices and A-Z of recycling in Adamawa State.

The workshop which is being organized by the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) in collaboration with the state government is holding at Federal College of Education, (FCE) Yola.

Declaring the training open, the State Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources Development, Alhaji Shuaibu Audu observed that domestic and industrial waste pose challenges in the country.

The Commissioner represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Cletus Gotel decried the negative consequencies of waste on human health, agriculture and infrastructure.

He stressed that the mordern process of waste management has to start with individual who will reduce, reuse and recycle wastes for improved hygiene and economy.

In her remarks, the representative of NEDC, Fatima Bakari said the workshop is part of the series programmes being put in place by the commission aimed at rebuilding the people in the region.

The Coordinator of the Programme, Dr Muhammed Aminu said the training comprise two categories of 50 youths and 100 scavengers who are the direct beneficiaries.

He disclosed that the youths will be equipped on how to build and sustain the programme as well as train others while the scavengers will be educated on safety, good hygiene and marketing the product.

In a goodwill message, the chairman Adamawa State House of Assembly Committee on Environment, Alhaji Kabiru Mininyawa appreciates the NEDC for organising the programme, which he described as timely.

In their seperate remarks, some of the participants expressed appreciation for being part of the training and pledged to extend the knowledge they will gain to others in the society.
