Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has tasked critical stakeholders to join hands with relevant authorities in the fight against drug abuse in the society.

The governor gave the charge at Jibrin Aminu Auditorium, Federal College of Education Yola, in commemoration of United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

He explained that statistics has shown that three percent of people from sixty-five years and above, while thirty-five percent of people from fifteen years to sixty are involved in drug Abuse.

Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Doctor Bashir Ahmed, the governor called on parents and religious leaders to make frantic efforts to check drug Abuse among youths.

In his remark, the Adamawa state Commandant of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA Idris Mohammed Bello said the theme for this year is “Share facts about drugs, save lives”.

He expressed satisfaction with the support from the general public and cordial working relationship with other sister agencies in the fight against drug use.

According to him, the command recently arrested four hundred and twenty suspects with a seizure of two thousand kilograms of hard drugs.

Mallam Bello said the command also secured sixty-six convictions while sixty-seven cases are pending at the Federal High Court in Yola.
