CAN Youth To Collaborate With Agencies To Fight Drug Abuse

The state chairman of youth wing of Christian Association of Nigeria CAN Mr Godwin Joseph has called on all tiers of Governments and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to join hands in the fight against illicit drugs in the country.

Mr Joseph made the call during a press briefing against the backdrop of this year international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking held at CAN Secretariat Jimeta-Yola.

The International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking was set aside to raise awareness among youths, government and civil society on how to tackle drug challenges.

According to him, the United Nations record shows that around two hundred and seventy-five million people use drugs worldwide last year and drug abuse is indirectly responsible for the deaths of eleven points eight million people each year.

Members of the association later in a procession with placards proceeded to Government House Yola and was received by Chief of staff Government House Professor Maxwell Gidado.

Addressing the group, Professor Maxwell Gidado commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing retired General Buba Marwa to head the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

He said the Fintiri led administration has put mechanism in place which curbed the menace of drugs abuse and activities of radical Shila boys and lauded the Association for enlightening youths on the dangers of drugs abuse.
