Fmerd organises workshop for Agricultural Extension Workers in Adamawa

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services and Sassakawa Africa association Global twenty-twenty have organised a four Day workshop for Agricultural Extension Workers in Adamawa.

Declaring the training open, the Adamawa state Commissioner of Agriculture Alhaji Umar Iya Daware who was represented by the permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Dorathy Augustine urged the participants to brace up and pay attention to enable them learn a lot on extension service.

He said the training will go a long way in building the capacity of the participants towards improving agricultural activities in the state.

The Commissioner thanked the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and other organisers of the workshop for their foresight and reiterated governments support to the program.

Delivering the Speech of Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Doctor Muhammed Abubakar, the state Director Federal ministry of Agriculture Mr Obadiah Noah described Agricultural extension delivery as a driver of all agricultural policies and research without which he said, all efforts in the agricultural ecosystem may not realize its intended goals.

The Minister noted that the training is one of the several strategies planned by the ministry to halt the drift in the Agricultural extension system with the aim of pursuing the revitalization agenda of the economy by the Federal Government.

He urged the participants to take the training serious to enable the country meets global competitiveness for adequate food supply and augment foreign earnings.

Also in a remark, the Director Federal Department of Agricultural Extension, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Engineer Frank Satumari Kudla represented by Mr Huzi Mshelia said the aim of the training is to empower participants with skills in the use of extension delivery methodologies and tools as well as the best global practices in the Agricultural value chains as chosen by each state.

He said it will also provide the participants with necessary logistics and reference manuals in tune with emerging technologies, innovations and practices in the sub-sector.

The workshop which drew participants from the twenty-one local government areas of Adamawa is holding at Adamawa Agricultural Development Programme Headquarters in Yola.
