Federal Ministry of Agriculture trains Potato farmers in Adamawa

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has trained six hundred Potato Farmers on modern techniques of processing and marketing of the produce in Adamawa.

The one-day training which draw participants from various groups held at a conference Hall of Federal Secretariat Yola.

Speaking during the event, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Agriculture Alhaji Umar Daware described the training as timely as it will go a long way in boosting potato farming in Adamawa.

Represented by a Director in the Ministry, Mrs Edna Azura, the Commissioner Commended Federal Ministry of Agriculture for hosting the training in Adamawa and called on participants to utilized skills acquired to improve potato farming and production in Adamawa.

In a remark, National Coordinator Potato Value Chain Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Mr Adegoke Austin said six hundred Farmers are to benefit from the six thousand bundles of orange fleshed sweet potato vine in Adamawa.

He said FMERD has trained Potato farmers because of the vitamin A that contain in orange sweet potato which boost immune system of a person.

Mr Adegoke stressed the need for farmers to inculcate the habit of adopting farming as business for greater income and self-reliance.

The National Coordinator explained that the farmers were equipped with skills on production of potato to produce Bread, Cake, Doughnuts, Juice and Amala among others for business opportunities to the farmers.

On his part, the Director Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Adamawa state, Doctor Obadiah Noah said the important of orange sweet potato cannot be overemphasize because its contain nutritional vitamins hence the need for farmers to venture in to it.

Some of the participants Jalo Jauro, Vice president Pogpman, Isa Babale Yola and Ruth Haruna Tarfa interviewed by ABC reporter thanked FMERD for the training and pledged to make the best use of the knowledge acquired.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of orange fleshed sweet potato vine to the beneficiaries.
