Child Protection Law: Coordinator Appeals To State Government To Constitute Implementation Committee

The Adamawa state coordinator, of a Non-governmental organization Child Protection Network, Comrade Sunday Kadiri has appealed to the state government to expeditiously constitute an Implementation Committee for the Child Protection Law towards ensuring its enforcement across the state.

He appealed in an interview with newsmen in Yola against the backdrop of the recent assent to the bill by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

According to the coordinator, the role of the implementation committee is crucial as it would ensure the efficacy of the law and the impact of Fintiri its coming into effect.

Comrade Kadiri who commended Governor Umaru Fintiri for assenting to the law noted that the gesture will go a long way in safeguarding and protecting the rights of children in the state.

He explained that the law will among others, eliminate child trafficking, child labor, and associated abuses as well as check truancy among school children.

The coordinator who urged parents to be supportive of  the implementation of the law cautioned them against child molestation in any form.

Comrade Kadiri while appreciating stakeholders for their support during the process of passage of the law the Adamawa State House, of Assembly, particularly thanked the efforts of ROLAC-British Council, Yola for the technical and financial support in actualizing the intervention.

He similarly thanked the Organization, ACE Charity Africa, and Malala Fund for their support towards the success and passage of the bill and the subsequent assent by the Governor.

Corroborating, the state Secretary of the network, Comrade Yahaya Ahmad Iya described Governor Fintiri’s assent to the bill as courageous and a step in the right direction.

Comrade Iya opined that one important component of the enforcement of the law is the constituting of the Implementation Committee hence the plea to the Governor to act in that regard.

He expressed the hope that with the assent, the citizenry will respond to the law accordingly for the better welfare of children.

It could be recalled that Governor  Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri recently assented to the Child Protection Law of  Adamawa State twenty twenty-two.
