ADHA Mandates State Government To Provide Emergency Relief Materials To Flood Victims In The State

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed a resolution mandating the Adamawa state government and council chairmen of Shelleng, Guyuk, Numan, Demsa and Lamurde to as matter of urgency provide emergency relief materials to victims in Shelleng and other local government areas affected by flood.

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed a resolution mandating the Adamawa state government and council chairmen of Shelleng, Guyuk, Numan, Demsa and Lamurde to as matter of urgency provide emergency relief materials to victims in Shelleng and other local government areas affected by flood.

The house also directed its relevant standing committees to liaise with the state Ministries of Environment, Water Resources, Agriculture, and relevant federal authorities to provide lasting solution to the Issue annual flood across the state.

The house resolutions followed matters of urgent public importance raised by the member representing Shelleng constituency in the seventh assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Isa on the floor of the house Tuesday, on the recent flood disaster in Shelleng town which destroyed houses, farmlands, food items, livestock and other valuables worth millions of naira.

He explained that, the major causes of the flood which among others includes; siltation of the river, overflowing of river Gongola, Daɗin Kowa Dam, management of Kiri Dam and collapse of the river enbankments in Shelleng.

The lawmaker prayed to the house to pass resolutions and mandate relevant authorities to provide the victims with emergency assistance especially building materials, food items, beddings, as well assist them to relocate to safer sites and reconstruct river Gongola embankments in Shelleng constituency.

The deputy speaker of the house and member representing Numan Mr. Pwamakeino Mackondo, his counterparts of Lamurde Mr. Myandasa Bauna, Mr. Adwawa Donglock of Guyuk and Mrs. Kate Raymond Mamuno of Demsa while speaking on the existing order said flood is one of the major problem that people in their constituency especially those residing  in riverine areas are facing.

Others who contributed in  the matter of urgent public importance raised by the member representing Shelleng  Abubakar Isa, are Alhaji Kabiru Mijinyawa of Yola South and Abdullahi Umar Yapak of Verre constituency who explained that most parts of the state are experience flooding during the rainy season.

The lawmakers expressed concern over the attitude of some people who are affecting structures along water ways especially along the Chochi irrigation site along Jimeta Yola road.

Thereafter Speaker of the house, Alhaji Aminu Iya Abbas who presided over the session mandated the house standing committees to liase with relevant ministries and agencies to look into the issue and profer lasting solutions.

He directed the Clerk of the house to communicate the resolution to other appropriate authorities for immediate action.
