Adamawa State Government Engages 500 Youths As Street Cleaners

Adamawa state government has engage about five hundred Youths to be used for street cleaning in Yola to ensure that it is one of the cleanest state capitals with each of them to draw fifteen thousand monthly as stipend.

The special Adviser to the governor on environment and natural resources Mr Gana Richard said in an interview with ABC Reporter, that this in line with a bill that was passed and assented to by the Governor known as Adamawa state Environmental Protection agency ADSEPTA Bill.

Mr Richard pointed out that what is remaining now is for the Agency to commence operations adding that there will be provision of Sanitary trucks, waste bins and dump sites for collection and evacuation of solid waste.

He disclosed that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has approved the restoration of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise every last Saturday of the month.

Richard added that the state government has repaired some of the refuse evacuation vehicles that have been down over fifteen to twenty years are now in use to ensure that the state capital is kept clean.

He stated that the major challenge of the ministry of environment now is that of dump sites are facing now is the dumb sites adding that before the inception present administration most of the refuse collection sites has been sold to some individuals who erected structures.

Mr Richard said a committee was constituted to go around the state capital and identify refuse dumping sites but it discovered that suitable sites have already been developed.

The adviser however gave assurance that the ministry will soon provide strategic sites for dumping refuse in the state capital.

He advised Adamawa People to plant trees and avoid indiscrimination felling trees.

Mr Richard said the government has some programmes on trees planting to ensure afforestation making to the environment safer for all.

He urged the citizens to always keep their environment clean through proper refuse disposal adding that they should avoid dumping of refuse in water-ways.
