The Adamawa state Coalition Against Rape has decried the incessant reported cases of rape in the state.
The coalition made the observation Friday while commemorating it’s one year anniversary which was held at the police Round about Jimeta.
In her presentation, the convener Hajiya Asmau Joda, lamented that despite the promise made by relevant stakeholders in Adamawa to check rape, the evil act is on the increase and stressed the need for the Executive, the Legislative and the Judiacry to be proactive on the issue.
She said rape has been forbidden by Islam and Christianity, calling on religious leaders to continue to preach against it until success is achieved.
On his part, Head of Media of the organization, Doctor Muhammed Adamu Dodo said rapists are nuisance in the society, and urged the Adamawa state Government to come up with harsh punitive measures against perpetrators of the act as was done in other states like Ekiti, Kano, Kaduna and Nasarawa.
In their separate remarks, Chairman Widows Association, Adamawa state chapter Mrs Hilda Mankanto, representative of Youth Al’Amin Bobbo Muhammed, and the Coordinator HIV and AIDS prevention Adamawa state, Mrs Farah James noted that the increasing cases of rape in the society is frightening.
They observed that culture of silence is contributing to the increasing cases, and called on victims of rape to speak-out and demand justice.
