Sulh FORA extends knowledge to communities

Communities in Adamawa have been advised to adopt alternative dispute resolution strategies instead of reporting conflict to security agencies and the court of law.

A facilitator, Mallam  Adamu Muhammad gave the charge during a training on alternative dispute resolution organised by the A Non-Governmental Organizations Center for Women and Adolescent Empowerment Yola through its Sulh FORA in Wauru Jabbe  and Tasha Sani at an event held at Dundere, Rumde Baru and Walowol communities in Yola South local government area.

The project is being supported by African Transitional Justice Legacy Funds ATJLF and Jaiz Ophand and Widows Initiative JOWI.

Mallam Adamu who explained that Sulhu is an arabic word meaning to Make peace, said it originated from the word “Selah”.

Giving the historical background of Sulh, the facilitator urged people to sort out their misunderstanding through Sulhu for lasting peace and tranquility.

He emphasized the need for participants at the training to use the experience they have garnered and step it down to other members of their communities.

Another facilitator, Mallam Hassan Muhammad stressed the need for people to settle dispute through dialogue to forestall bitterness and hatred.

He qouted some verses from the Holy Qur’an and Hadith of Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him, citing examples of how conflicts were resolved by dialogue.

The Facilitators separately equipped the participants with the rudiments of fundamental human rights, constitutionally and religiously.
