Many Looters Returns Properties

Many people in the state capital as of Wednesday morning have returned various items they looted from government, private and corporate organizations during the breakdown of law and order in Yola on Sunday and Monday.

A team of ABC reporters who went round the state capital reported that there was impressive response to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri broadcast which directed the looters to return the property in their own interest.

Areas visited by ABC team of reporters include BAchure, Mbamba, Tashan Sani, Doubeli, Mobile Police Barracks Yola and Damilu.

Properties voluntarily returned by people include tractors, water pumps, sprayers, fertilizers, tricycles, refrigerators and furniture among others.

The ward head of Bachure Dou-Waya Jimeta, Shuaaibu Mohammed said the properties returned were being evacuated and deposited at Department of Security Service DSS Office.

In an interview, the Chairman of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria RIFAN, Adamawa chapter, Mr Steven Maduwa said as at Wednesday afternoor, about seventy tractors had been recovered.

It could be recalled that in a broadcast on Tuesday, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri had given those who looted government and private properties twelve hours within which to return them or face the wrath of government.
