Five Former Lawmakers defect to PDP in Adamawa

At least five former members of the Adamawa state House of Assembly alongside thousands of their supporters have left the opposition All Progressives Congress APC for the ruling People’s Democratic Party PDP in the state.
The former legislator include Adamu Usman from Toungo, Musa Mahmud Kallamu; Mayo-Belwa, Sale Thompson from Leko Koma, Mohammed Maikanti; Fufore Gurin and Barrister Sani Shehu from Mubi North.
In his address at the event held in the Banquet Hall, Government House, Yola Thursday Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri while receiving the defectors congratulated the returnees for what he described as their wise decision.
He urged leaders of the PDP at various levels in the state to accept into the defectors to their fold and accord them level playing ground while noting that the doors of the party will to remain open to others who wish to come in.
The Governor assured people of Adamawa that his administration will remain focused in taking the state to the next level so the present generation and even those coming later will have much to be proud of.
On security, Governor Fintiri called on people of Adamawa to assist security personnel in their task of maintaining peace which he described as a prerequisite for meaningful development.
He reminded people of Adamawa on the second wave of coronavirus pandemic and advised citizens to observe preventive measures against the dreaded disease assuring that government is ready take care of people that might contract the virus.
In his remarks, the State Chairman of the PDP, Barrister Tahir Shehu who was represented by Muhammad Inuwa Basi expressed happiness that the party in Adamawa has continued to receive defectors from other political parties.
He said the PDP established in nineteen ninety eighth is still strong and noted with appreciation the return of the former members of the state Assembly.
Earlier in his welcome address, the State Deputy Treasurer of PDP Alhaji Audu Gete observed that the giant strides recorded by Governor Umaru Fintiri in many sectors are the key factor behind the defection of the former lawmakers and their supporters.
In their separate remarks, on behalf of other defectors, Alhaji Musa Mahmud Kallamu, Alhaji Adamu Usman, and Sale Thompson among other speakers commended Governor Umaru Fintiri for executing developmental projects in their respective.
