COVID-19: Academic activities resume fully in schools

The State Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development Mrs Wulbina Jackson has appealed to parents and guardians to as a matter of urgency sent back their children to school as teaching and learning has began.

Mrs Wulbina Jackson made the appeal when she paid an unscheduled visit to some public and private schools across in the state capital which reopened on Monday after six months of closure.

The commissioner challenged teachers to redouble their efforts considering the long period of closure as a result of COVID-nineteen pandemic.

She frowned at the turn out of students in some of the schools visited and called on students to abandoned the mentality of adding one week before reporting to school.

Mrs Wulbina Jackson said student and teachers to always adhere to the COVID-nineteen protocols for their safety.

She further urged parents and guardians whose children are yet to resume in school to do so immediately to enable them cover what they have lost as a result of COVID-nineteen pandemic.

The Commissioner stressed the need for extension of school days to Saturday to make up for the period lost during the emergency vacation.

The schools visited by the Commissioner are Sanda Government Girls Day Secondary School Yola, Hammawa Toungo Government junior secondary School, Yola Government Day Secondary School Wuro Hausa, El_kanemi Collage of Ismamic Theology Yola, Suleiman Ribadu Academy as well as kumanity Academy, all in Yola.

Mrs Wulbina Jackson was accompanied during the visit by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Hajiya Aisha, Some Directors in the Ministry and the Acting State Director of National Orientation Agency Alhaji Mohammed Bashir Gabdo.
