Adamawa State Government To Reposition Sporting Activities

The Commissioner of Youth and Sports Mr Aloysius Babadoke says the state government is on course in repositioning sporting activities in the state.

He made the promise at the closing of a three-day seminar organized by Nigeria Football Coaches Association, NFCA Adamawa state chapter held at the Universal Basic Education Board, UBEB Yola Thursday.

Mr Babakoke explained that government has made some change in the sport sector in recent times with a view to raising standards.

The commissioner declared that various challenges in the sport sector have been captured in government plans and promised a brighter future for the sector.

Mr Babakoke announced that the Ministry of Youth and Sports was collaborating with some corporate bodies to sponsor sporting activities in Adamawa.

He commended the coaches’ association for organizing the seminar and pledged his support at all times.

In his remark, the Deputy Speaker, Adamawa State House Assembly, Mr Pomwakeno Makendo represented by the clerk of the house, Umar Usman Hamidu described the seminar as timely.

He said Adamawa state House of Assembly a bill for the establishment of the Adamawa Sports Commission has scaled through the first reading.

The deputy speaker commended organizers of the seminar and urged them to maintain the posture.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Nigeria Football Coaches Association in Adamawa state Coach Justine Madugu said the aim of the seminar is to complement government efforts to address youth restiveness and improve the performance of coaches as well as raise standard of football in Adamawa.

He explained that Adamawa state has talented footballers and appealed on well-meaning Nigerians to contribute taking football to a higher level.

The chairman stated that the association was facing some challenges including lack of operational vehicles and other logistics, and called on stakeholders to assist in over-coming them.

Speaking to newsmen, some of participants of the seminar Malam Khalid Jalo and Mr Festus Murealewe described the training timely and promised to make good use the knowledge acquired.

Highlights of the event were presentation of certificate to participants and review of the three days’ activities during the seminar.
