Need for women to speak with one voice stressed

The need for women to unite and speak with one voice has again been stressed.
To this end the womenfolk have been charged to shun politics of hatred to enable them achieve their political ambitions.
Mrs Comfort Ibrahim of a non-governmental organization, Adamawa women in politics made the remark at an event organized to sensitize for support to women contesting elections and women in leadership.
The event held at Yolde Pate in Yola south local government was organized by Adamawa women in politics and Women in politics forum in collaboration with Canada and action aid.
Mrs. Comfort described the attitude of some women towards women vying for elective positions as unpleasant.
She explained that women have a vital role to play in the development of any society though they are not being given their righfull position in the scheme of things.
Mrs comfort Ibrahim called on women to participate actively in politics and unite to ensure success in their endeavours.
Speaking on the role of women in the political dispensation, Mr James Shelleng advised women to support each other and avoid voting based on sentiments on endorsement during elections.
In an interview, the state coordinator of Adamawa women in politics Mrs Laureta Charles said the purpose of the event is to sensitize women on the need to support and vote for fellow women during the twenty-twenty three general elections.
The coordinator said many women are not committed when its comes to politics and called on them to change for the better.
In her remark, the member representing Demsa constituency in the state Assembly Mrs Kate Raymond Mamunu described women as peace builders pointing out that the forum is an opportunity for women to contribute their quota.
Also speaking the commissioner of women Affairs Mrs Lami Patrick commended organizers for finding such program for women to be heard.
The commissioner tasked women to participate actively in politics despites the hostile environment.
Earlier in his welcome address, the village heard of Yolde Pate Alhaji Muhammadu Jingi represented by Mallam Salihu Yarima thanked the organizers of the event for supporting women and encourage them to participate in political activities.
Some of the participate who spoke described the programme as timely as well as an opportunity for them to play their roles in politics.
