RoLAC Supported Passage Of Six Laws In Adamawa State-Plang

The National Programme Manager (RoLAC) Danladi Plang has applauded the harmonious working relationship between the three arms of government in Adamawa, noting that with the support of RoLAC, six laws were passed in the lifespan of the programme in the state, saying one of these laws is yet to be passed in the last ten years in one of the states.

The National Programme Manager (RoLAC) Danladi Plang has applauded the harmonious working relationship between the three arms of government in Adamawa, noting that with the support of RoLAC, six laws were passed in the lifespan of the programme in the state, saying one of these laws is yet to be passed in the last ten years in one of the states.

He disclosed this during the close-out event of the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption programme RoLAC held at the AUN Hotel conference centre, Monday, said the programme is funded by European Union and implemented British Council, Nigeria working in five states including Lagos, Edo, Anambra, Adamawa, Kano and Some Federal institutions in the FCT.

He disclosed that the programme started in two thousand and seventeen and will end on March sixteen this year, stressing that the programme work in four components, Criminal Justice Reform, Access to Justice for Women, Children and persons with Disabilities, Anti-corruption reform, Civil Societies, and the Media.

In his message, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state says due prudence expenditure by the government has curtailed corruption in the minds of people in the state, explained that this led to the execution of various developmental projects by the present administration through judicious use of available resources.

Governor Fintiri, represented by Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Afraimu Jingi, said the essence of any government is to provide security, and protection for the citizenry and visitors of the state, noted that without a robust judicial system, it will be difficult to provide that security for the citizens.

Governor Fintiri noted that with the training given to staff by RoLAC, the productivity of the state council is now higher than before, stressing that government will ensure the sustenance of the programme for the benefit of the people and will make sure they enjoy relative peace, especially women and children.

He gave an assurance that government will ensure the sustainability of the RoLAC programme for the benefit of the people of the state.

In her message, the Acting State Chief Judge, Justice Hapsat Abdurraham, represented by Justice Samuel Kyanson, stated that there is a monumental increment in terms of making the justice system more accessible and responding to the needs of the people.

She assured that the programme will be sustained in the state since is meant to take care of the yearnings of the people of the governance and a robust administration of justice.

In his goodwill message, Adamawa State Commissioner of Police CP Sikiru Akande said eighty percent of Police reorientation to service delivery came from the support the command received from the RoLAC.

He said the agency has trained Police officers on the rule of law, human rights, Gender-based violence management, state of art statement taking facility, log books on reminders and protocols, and reminders e-library among others.

CP Akande stressed that the statement-taking facility has reduced the Police in Adamawa state from using unorthodox means of getting facts and figures from criminals.

Also, the Head of Service, Adamawa State Doctor Ãmos Edgar said RoLAC has trained many Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Ministries, Department, and Agencies on different aspects of the fight against corruption, and procurement process which lead to the establishment of anti-corruption units in every ministry, Department and Agencies.

The Lamido Adamawa, Doctor Barkindo Aliyu Mustafa who was Represented by wakili Alkala Retired Justice Nathan Musa assured that Emirate will continue to cooperate and partner with any organization that has similar programs with RoLAC to see that vulnerable, women and children would have access to justice without any hindrance.

He hoped that the stakeholders would continue to sustain the programme for the benefit of people.

The immediate past Chief Judge in the state, Retired Justice Nathan Musa said during his tenure some laws have been passed by the executive to include designated four High Courts in Yola, Mubi, Ganye, and Gombi to handle cases of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence SGBV, Juvenile Courts in Numan, Ganye and Gombi to child offensive cases, printed four hundred copies of practice direction on custodian and non-custodians sentences, the establishment of Adamawa State Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring committee, first of its kind in the Northeast among others.

On her part, Commissioner of Women Affairs, Taraba state Mrs. Bridget Twar explained that the VAPP law and other laws concerning children and women have been passed by the Taraba state government and hope the state will be amongst the states to benefit in the second phase of RoLAC programme.

The State Coordinator RoLAC, Barrister Hapsatu Abdullahi, and Wakili Doka Jimeta attributed the success of the programme in the state to the commitment of the government and other critical stakeholders.
