NUJ Adamawa State Council Withdraws Litigation To Secure Justice For Female Journalist

Following the recent arrest of one Malam Ibrahim Aliyu, the former husband to a female practicing Journalist in Adamawa State, Nafisa Vandi for wife battering and assault the legal case earlier filed against him has been withdrawn.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ being the complainant in the case explained in a statement that it has obliged the request from the Victim in the Case, her Parents, some religious leaders, and prominent citizens in the state for withdrawal of the case for alternative resolution.

In a press release signed by the state secretary of NUJ Mr. Fedelis Jockthan on behalf of the state chairman Comrade Donald Dedan, the union explained that the Action was necessitated by passionate appeals from various sources considering the peculiar nature of the case.

The statement noted that the suspect who also regretted his actions and has shown remorse has agreed to meet various Conditions set by the Victims aside as the case is to be handled at the family level.

The statement added that with this development, NUJ as a union has no hand in any further proceedings that may warrant litigation or inaction on the Matter and therefore terminated further processes initiated by the state leadership of our Union to secure justice for Nafisa Vandi regarding the case.

The union expressed special appreciation to the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command Mr. Sikiru Akande Kayode for exhibiting a high level of professionalism in the course of the case.

It further acknowledged and expressed gratitude to various Non-Governmental organizations, and individuals for their Support in the initial process of the case.
