Governor expresses concern on recent security challenges in Nigeria

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has assured President Muhammadu Buhari that the Adamawa State government will give him all the necessary support towards stemming security and maintaining peace in the country.

The Governor gave the assurance when he received in audience the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Muhammad Musa Bello who is in Adamawa on a working visit, in the Government House, Yola Friday.

He noted with concern the recent security challenges in the country which has started as a peaceful demonstration but degenerated into destruction of lives as well as private and public property describing it as uncalled for.

The Governor told the minister that in Adamawa state, the situation was calm as the youths have exhibited high sense of decorum and submitted their memo to him for onward presentation to the Presidency demanding Reformation of the police unit.

Governor Fintiri observed that the excesses of the Special Anti Robbery Squad SARS was totally unacceptable and called for reformation of the police to enable it effective fight crime and criminality in a civilized way.

According to the Governor it was among the resolutions of the North East governors in their recent meeting that the Police should be equipped to complement the efforts of the military in the sub-region which was ravaged by insurgency.

He said government has outlined measures in the state which include working with youth organizations, and enlightenment, and has inaugurated commission of enquiry that will check the excesses of SARS among others.

Governor Fintiri added that the government held an expanded security meeting and discussed extensively on the security issue as Adamawa and Nigeria in general has suffered a lot as a result of the impact of Covid-nineteen on the economy and other sectors.

The Minister of the FCT, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello while speaking said the visit was to among others rub minds with the Governor on the emerging security challenges in the country for amicable solutions.

He congratulated the Governor for managing the crises effectively in the state adding that the Federal Capital Territory has recorded pockets of demonstration`s but was successfully managed through collaborative efforts.
