Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has advocated for thorough public sensitization for people to accept the repentant boko haram members back to the society after they have been fully rehabilitated by government.

The Governor made this known while receiving a delegation of ‘Operation Safe Corridor’ who paid him a courtesy call in the government house Yola, Friday.

He assured readiness of the state government to support the committee to ensure that the society is adequately sensitized in that regard so that those who genuinely surrendered particularly those that were lured into the sect are properly reintegrated.

Governor Fintiri commended the efforts of ‘Operation Safe Corridor for making some members of the dreaded group to repent.

He equally saluted the gallant soldiers of the Nigeria Army for working tirelessly towards ending activities of boko haram to enable the people enjoy socioeconomic development.

The Governor advised that the reintegration process should be handling with caution as the fight against insurgency is still ongoing, promising that government will continue to support the committee’s efforts in Adamawa.

Earlier in his remark, the Commander of Operation Safe Corridor, Brigadier General Bamidele Matiu Shafa said the delegation was in the government house on a sensitization mission on the activities of the committee.

He said Operation Safe Corridor was established in twenty sixteen essentially to rehabilitate Boko Haram members who voluntarily surrender their arms adding that so far the committee had brought back nine indigenes of Adamawa and have fully been reintegrated into the state.

The Commander pleaded with Governor Fintiri to strengthen the mechanisms put in place for receiving Boko Haram members who surrendered.

He also appealed to the Governor to appoint government official that will be liaising with the committee as well as establish reception committee that will be receiving the young boys and reintegrate them into the society.
