Plans are underway for construction of an ultra-modern abattoir in Yola with the capacity of slaughtering and processing two thousand cows per day by the state government.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who revealed this shortly after inspecting facilities at the State Abattoir in Yola on Tuesday, said the plan is in collaboration with some Malaysian investors.

He said the construction of a new ultra modern Abattoir will go a long way in creating job opportunities and also serve local and international markets.

Governor Fintiri expressed dismay over the empty buildings with obsolute and rusting factory equipment at the centre which are overdue for replacement

He said due to lack of maintenance culture, the abattoir has lost its potentials and revealed that his administration has since swung into action towards changing the fortunes of the facility.

The governor further said that upgrading the abattoir will improve the hygienic condition of the state, stating that the intervention is for the benefit of meat consumers and butchers.

On his part, the Commissioner, of Ministry of Livestock, Usman Yahaya Diyajo applauded Governor Fintiri for coming to the aid of the Ministry as most machines at the abattoir before the advent of the present administration were obsolete.

He revealed that with the present administration’s intervention, the abattoir now has a holding pen, slaughter slab and deboning units which he said has improved the standard and physical state of the centre.

Usman Diyajo pointed out that government has acquired standard vans for transportation of meat from the abattoir to points of sale in a hygienic way.
