Adamawa Chairman of Planning Commission tasks people to protect government projects

Communities in Adamawa have been tasked to guard and protect government projects cited in their areas for maximum benefit.

The Executive Chairman, Adamawa State Planning Commission Doctor Mary Paninga gave the charge while addressing stakeholders at a town hall meeting held at Nyako Training Centre, State Secretariat Yola.

She said the town hall meeting was meant to generate information on the needs of the people to be captured in twenty-twenty one state budget.

Doctor Paninga said the town hall meeting tagged ‘Citizens Engagement’, is designed to carry people at the grassroots along in governance, stressing that the present administration in the state attached importance to the views of the people, hence the need.

The Executive Chairman pointed out some of needs present may not be captured, in the but as only the basic and immediate ones will be considered due to economic melt-down occasioned by COVID-nineteen.

In their separate good will messages, the State Commissioner for Finance represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Mrs Gyatam Bassi and the Commissioner for Local Government affairs represented by Mallam Kabiru Bakari said involvement of people in the  budget process cannot be overemphasize, describing the town hall meeting  as timely.

They stated that when such documents is articulated it convey`s the real needs of the people and commended the state Planning Commission for the foresight.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the director research, planning and budget in the State planning commission Mr Adamu Yakubu urged participants to come out with inputs in the areas of Raods, Health, Education, Water and Electricity among others.

One of the participants, and Chairman, Network of Adamawa Non-Governmental Organizations Ambassador Peter Egwudah noted that participation by stakeholders is a key ingredient needed for sound decision making.

Participants at the meeting included representative of Nongovernmental organizations, religious and traditional leaders as well as representatives of Youths and Women groups.
