Federal Ministry Of Environment To Commission Recycling Plant In Gombi

The Federal Ministry of Environment in Adamawa state is set to commission a community based recycling plant in Gombi.

State controller of the Ministry, Hajiya Safiya Mohammed Abubakar stated this in an interview on the celebration of World Environment Day, with the theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution; Ecosystem Restoration”.

The state controller explained that as a move to checkmate waste disposal, the recycling plant in Gombi, when commission will be handed over to the community through the state government.

Hajiya Safiya noted that it will boost recycling activities in the state and would lead to reduction in plastic pollution, and advised people of the state to engage in recycling of waste products.

Hajiya Safiya described plastic as a non-degradable waste, which takes generation to germinate.

She revealed that the ministry encourages those into waste materials for recycling or redesigning into usable materials and organic material.

Statistics indicates that more than four hundred million tonnes of plastic are produced every year worldwide, half of which is designed to be used only once, while less than ten per cent is recycled.

Also, an estimated twenty-three million tonnes end up in lakes, rivers and seas annually, while each person on the planet consumes more than fifty thousand plastic particles per year.
