Yola Electricity Distribution Company, YEDC has organized sensitization campaign on environmental challenges to the students of Capital school in Jimeta to commemorate the World Environment Day.
This year’s celebration is “End Pollution”.
Speaking to newsmen, after the sensitization campaign which took place at the school premises on Thursday, Corporate Communication Officer of YEDC, Blessing Tunoh said the Day is set aside by the United Nations to raise awareness on environmental challenge across the globe.
The Corporate Communication Officer said the aim of sensitization is to change the mindset of the students on how to protect environment in their various communities.
She added every year, the company organized sensitization on environment and health Safety management in the state and expressed delight with level of cooperation by the students during the sensitization lecture.
Mrs Tunoh urged them to stepdown knowledge acquired to others.
She advised members of the public to cultivate the habit of dumping refuses in designated areas in order to minimize environmental challenges.
In an interview, Principal Government Day Capital School Yola, Juliana David Dekam expressed appreciation to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company for organizing the lecture and tree planting in the school.
She said the trees would serve as a wind breaker and address the issues related to windblown in the school.
The principal called on nongovernmental organizations to emulate the YEDC by extending the same gesture to other schools across the state.
Some of the students interviewed include Kemiya Amos and Nazira Lawan described the sensitization lecture as timely and pledged to use the knowledge acquired to green the school.
Highpoint of the campaign was demonstration of tree planting by the students which was donated by YEDC to the school.
