UNICEF, PHCDA Engages Journalists On Vaccinations

Adamawa State Primary health care Development Agency in collaboration with United Nations Children’s Education Fund UNICEF has organized a one day Media engagement meeting with journalists in the state as part of activities for the forthcoming integrated vaccination campaign coming up in October next month.
During the meeting held at conference hall, Adamawa State Primary health care Development Agency Yola, the UNICEF led consultant in the state pharmacist Innocent Udemeze explain that the aim of the meeting is to reduce vaccination fatigue from many rounds of campaigns and cost of the campaign considering it expensive.
Pharmacist Innocent added that the meeting will also make it possible to reach all vaccine recipients with need vaccines at once by reducing time, materials and other resources used.
Pharmacist Innocent while revealing the role of the media in the integrated vaccination campaign challenge journalists on verifying all campaign information from credible sources, avoiding sensational headlines that damages the vaccination programs as well working to promote vaccines benefits at state and local levels.
He used the forum to called on the media to go beyond headlines by conducting human angles stories and producing of documentaries that can highlight the challenges and successes of the campaign.
Earlier in a welcome Address, the Executive chairman State Primary health care Development Agency Doctor Suleiman Saidu Adamu represented by Director Disease control in the state Doctor Jacob James tasks the journalists on the need to streamline to the targeted audience like parents, schools both private and government as well as formal Education Sectors in the state.
Doctor Suleiman also encouraged the journalists to monitor the activities even after the meeting but, also during the campaign and report feedback.
While given an update on the immunization exercise the State Immunization officer Abubakar Umar Bahuli stated that the integration for the measles will be done on facility based or temporary fix point because of its rejection while for the polio will be done house to house.
He said the targeted group for the measles vaccine is from nine to fifty nine months and for the polio is from zero to fifty nine months respectively.
