Residents Identifies Family Planning As Panacea To Mitigate Economic Burden

Residents of Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa state have identified Family Planning as a panacea for mitigating economic burden on families and the society.

This is even as the surrounding communities are said to increasingly embrace the plan with a view to easing up on their livelihood.

Family Planning is, by advocacy, meant to control the unwanted procreation among couples and intending single parents and ultimately determine the size of an ideal population for national growth and modest development.

An investigation carried out by ABC health correspondent revealed that the campaign is gaining momentum, though not without hiccups.

Finding at Vunoklang in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa state revealed the rate at which family planning campaign garnered acceptance with a geometrical increase in the number of enrollees.

The figure, according to the head of unit, family planning in Girei, Mrs. Christiana Ayuba keeps rising from one hundred to over three hundred monthly who throng the designated health facilities to access the supposedly free of charge pills.

She explained that people now don’t mind patronizing the centres publicly, unlike before, when the practice was done secretly to evade public notice.

According to her, adolescents who were hitherto reluctant, are now in the vanguard of enrolling in the campaign while couples visit the facilities together for counselling.

Narrating her ordeal, a twenty eight year old mother of six children, Kyauta Luka, said having experienced natal challenges she finally resolved with her husband to embark on the family planning to safely recover and regain her mental and physical strength.

Similarly, a twenty six year old mother of five, Mrs Abigail John, explained that she had since embraced the campaign for long expressing satisfaction that she feels rejuvenated and urged others to do same.

On her part, an eighteen year old newly married, Hajiya Fatima Ibrahim revealed that she and her husband had earlier, in a bid to keying into family planning, before their marriage contract, agreed on when to and how many children they should have.

Speaking, Manager of Vunoklang Health Facility, Doris Hananiya who was impressed with the level compliance by the couples on family planning, however, decried shortage of supply of the essential commodities for the camping called Norister and Jeddenel.
