Polio: Gov Fintiri Charge Parents, Caregivers To Present For Immunization

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has challenged parents and caregivers to ensure every eligible child under five years of age receives the ongoing oral polio vaccine in the state regardless of their previous immunization status.
The governor gave the charge during the official flag off of 2025 round of National immunization plus days held at Malkohi Primary Health Care center in Namtari Yola South.
Represented by the state commissioner of Local government and chieftaincy Affairs Alhaji Ibrahim Yayaji, the Governor explained that the event it is a declaration of a collective commitment to protect lives and future of children against vaccine preventable diseases especially poliomyelitis.
Governor Fintiri who pointed out that as a state they recognize the health and well-being of children as foundational to the progress of Adamawa re-affirmed that no child will be left behind.
While commending the commitment and dedication of health workers, community mobilizers and development partners, the Governor said immunization is the government top priority not only for polio but for other childhood diseases such as measles, yellow fever and meningitis.
He used the forum to disclose that the Adamawa state government is committed in strengthening primary health care system by investing in infrastructure, logistics, staffing as well as accountability mechanism.

Earlier in a welcome address the executive chairman Yola South local government Alhaji Salihu Usman Malkohi represented by the vice chairperson of local government council Appreciate Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for advancing the immunization campaign in the state and stressed the need for mothers to present their children for the vaccine considering it’s health benefits.
In a remark the National Primary Health Care Department Agency State coordinator Mr. Markus Yohanna expressed satisfaction with the partnership enjoyed by state government through prompt and quick paying of counterpart funding to support all primary health care activities in Adamawa.
On her part, the United Nations Children Education Fund UNICEF Chief of Bauchi Field office Doctor Nuzat Rafique who commended the State the government commitment in children health well-being and encourage every mother on not to hesitate to vaccinate their children as according to her this is the last opportunity where children will be free from polio and make their life healthy.
Commenting a representative from World Health Organizations Doctor Yusuf Abdulhakeem explained that the WHO is a leading partner and called on government at all levels to continue in conducting high quality of Polio vaccination campaign to achieve and sustain the society free of any form of Polio viruses.
Other speakers at the ceremony include the district head of Girei and Ubandoma Adamawa, representative of District head of Malkohi Alhaji Gidado Buba among others assured Governor Fintiri that the information will be transmitted to their communities with high regard.
