Nigerians Urge Support Legislation of Reserved Seats for Women Bill

Nigerians have been urged to support the legislation of Reserved Seats for Women Bill Coalition.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Yola by the North East Zonal Coordinator of the Coalition Madam Fakuta Hyellagiziya Naiwa, explained that the bill proposes to create seventy-four additional seats at the federal level and one special seat for women per state and the Federal Capital Territory at both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
According to the statement thirty-seven extra seats in the Senate and thirty-seven in the House of Representatives, dedicated to amplifying women’s voices and ensuring more balanced decision-making.
Madam Naiwa noted that Nigeria’s democracy cannot flourish if more than half of its population remains largely unheard in the corridors of power, stressing that women occupy less than five percent of seats in the National Assembly.
She stated that the bill recognizes vital role women play in building safer, healthier, and more prosperous communities and will strengthen democracy by giving every community fair representation.
The Zonal Coordinator called on traditional rulers and community leaders to use their positions and enlighten their communities on the importance of the bill will uplift every household.
She also called on stakeholders at every level to join hands to lobby, advocate, and push for the passage of the bill.
