Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, presided over the coronation and presentation of the Staff of Office to Alhaji Ahmadu Saibaru as the first Emir of Maiha.
The ceremony, attended by dignitaries from across Nigeria and neighboring Cameroon, solidified the newly created Maiha Emirate’s place in the state’s evolving governance structure.
Governor Fintiri highlighted the significance of the occasion, noting that the establishment of Maiha Emirate is part of a broader initiative to revitalize and modernize the traditional institution while preserving its cultural significance.
The Governor reaffirmed that the creation of new emirates and chiefdoms including those in Fufore, Yungur, and Gombi, with upcoming installations in Hoba, Madagali, and Michika—reflects the state government’s commitment to strengthening local governance, promoting social cohesion, and enhancing security.
Governor Fintiri emphasized that the new emirates will serve as centers for dispute resolution, improve the management of ungoverned spaces, and contribute to peace, security, and development.
While acknowledging the presence of dignitaries from across Adamawa and Cameroon, the Governor stressed the importance of regional cooperation, and congratulated the people of Maiha, the Governor urged them to embrace their cultural diversity as strength rather than a division.
He also highlighted the emirate’s economic potential, citing the famous “Bullam” dress produced in Maiha and the emirate’s proximity to the commercial hub of Mubi and the Cameroon border as major trade advantages.
He charged the newly installed Emir, Alhaji Ahmadu Saibaru with the responsibility of fostering inclusivity, fairness, and justice.
The Lamido of Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha represented by Wali Adamawa, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mbamba congratulated the Governor for giving prominence in appointing the hardworking commissioners for the success in administration towards provision of social aminities to the Adamawa Masses.
In response, the Emir of Maiha Alhaji Ahmadu Saibaru thanked Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for the first time considering Maiha for the appointment of the Emir, described the day as one of the happiest day in his life endeavour.
The Emir, having aware of responsibility bestowed in him, pledged to do justice to all in Maiha local government area, commanded Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for the giant strides in curbing the activities of Boko Haram that claimed several lives in the past in his domain.
