People in the Northeast have been urged to adopt more cooking techniques and healthier eating habits.

The plea was made by various speakers at a training programme held in Yola, as part of effort to strengthening resilience of vulnerable communities.

The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations in collaboration with USAID organized the training programme for women in the North East on nutrition and fuel saving cost.

The training on is aimed at addressing poor nutrition, rising fuel costs and limited access to energy resources as a means of tackling critical challenges in conflict regions of the North East particularly in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States.

In their separate presentations, specialists on Agriculture Doctor Emon Matai and Energy specialist Doctor Bilkisu Maina from Food and Agricultural Organization said the training is to promote the adoption of more cooking techniques and charged participants to step down the knowledge in their various communities.

They noted that the training will afford the participants practical demonstration on how to implement energy efficient cooking methods that saves cost using locally available resources.

Some of the participants, who spoke at the event, noted that the training has opened their horizon on efficient energy cooking methods with local resources.

The training remains significant given the challenges on livelihood and nutrition especially on women and children, where food insecurity and worsening economic situation have heightened calling for practical sustainable solutions.
